Editing

The choice of software for this project to edit the footage was Adobe Premiere Pro CS3, this is software was available at my house and so it meant I could work on the project directly from home.

The method used to get the lip syncing correct was to lay down the whole song as a foundation to base and align all the clips to the song. The first step obtain the correct section of the footage which made up that specific scene then align the lips with the song lyrics. As the song was playing in the background during filming and the singer was singing along with the lyrics, it was not too difficult to align the words with the lips.

Lip Sync Example from N Kumar on Vimeo.

It was hard in one section of the music video to align the lyrics with the singers lips where the same footage was taken and reused in a section further on in the video. This was possible because the singer is actually saying the same lyrics as before and so in theory the lip syncing should be the same.

This was not the case, there was a slight problem because even though the singer was singing the same lyrics, the length of the words and the tone was somewhat different to the earlier footage. Instead of re-filming that particular section, I simply adjusted the clip to fit in to the new setting, this may include splitting up the clip or merging it with other clips.

I decided not to re-film for continuity purposes, it would be hard to exactly recreate the whole setting for that particular section and therefore leading to inadequacy in the relation between the music videos scenes and that new re-filmed scene. It would stick out quite obviously.
